John Gibbs (FH 1956-1961). As a pupil, housemaster, Master in Charge of Rugby, Master in Charge of Rackets, OT Secretary and a teacher of Classics, Business Studies and Economics – John was involved with nearly every of life at Tonbridge.

John also did huge amounts for cricket at Tonbridge – he coached many cricket sides whilst a member of the Common Room and a match on The Head wasn't complete without seeing Gibbo glide around the boundary on his bike. As Master in Charge of Rackets, he also got to know many of the cricketers through the winter months.

John was also at the centre of the Old Tonbridgian Cricket Club – he was both the secretary and treasurer of OTCC for many years, he hosted OTCC committee meetings at his house, he attended Cricketer Cup Draws and AGMs, he signed up leavers to OTCC as they left the School, he presented leavers with their OTCC ties, he organised the annual OTCC fixtures, he scored for the Cricketer Cup side, he masterminded numerous victories at the Sevenoaks Vine six-a-side tournament and he was the organiser of the legendary Charterhouse two-day fixture. John was always there and he made things happen, but above all he provided Old Tonbridgians with the opportunities to carry on playing cricket with their mates whilst representing Tonbridge. John's contribution to the Old Tonbridgian Cricket Club was immense. RIP Gibbo.
